Name: The Engineer Girl EGirl Essay Contest Scholarship
Award Amount: $500
Information And Eligibility: The EngineerGirl website sponsors an annual essay contest, which focuses on the field of engineering and its impact on the world. The essay contest is open to both, girls and boys, and is broken down into three categories of: 3rd grade to 5th grade (Ages 8-11), 6th grade to 8th grade (Ages 12-14), 9th grade to 12th grade (Ages 15-18). This scholarship opportunity is not based on the applicants Grade Point Average (GPA), and is not based upon the applicants financial need. This contest is not restricted to only US citizens.
To enter, all applicants must submit a 1500 word (maximum) essay, describing how engineering has addressed one of the following five areas of societal need (Nutrition, Health, Communication, Education, or Transportation) in the past 50 years and suggest ways that engineering could address this area of need in the next 50 years. All submitted essays must be the original work of the author and must not have been published anywhere else. Applicants are only allowed to submit one essay. Essays will be judged on the basis of content, research, expression, and originality. The first-place winners will be awarded $500. The second-place winners will be awarded $250. The third-place winners will be awarded $100.
