Name: Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation Graduate/Doctoral Scholarship – (Doctoral Track)

Award Amount: Ranges from approximately $500 to $25,000 per recipient

Information and Eligibility:
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation supports dietetics professionals at all levels—including those enrolled in doctoral-level nutrition or dietetics programs—through a single, centralized annual scholarship application that matches applicants to eligible funds. The doctoral track is designed for students who are accepted to or currently enrolled in a U.S. regionally accredited doctoral program (PhD, EdD, or equivalent) with a major in nutrition and dietetics or a related field, and intend to pursue a career in dietetics practice, education or research. Eligibility criteria include:

  • Enrollment: Applicant must be accepted into or currently enrolled in an advanced degree (graduate or doctoral) program in nutrition and dietetics or a coordinated/future-education model graduate program accredited by ACEND® (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics).
  • Field of Study: Major or professional intent must be in nutrition and dietetics or a related discipline and applicant must intend to practice within the field of dietetics.
  • Enrollment Duration: Applicant must be enrolled for at least four months of the academic year in an eligible program.
  • Membership (Strongly Encouraged): While Academy membership is not strictly required to apply, the vast majority of named scholarships give preference to Academy members.

Application Requirements:

  • Complete the Foundation’s online scholarship application (one portal serves all eligible scholarship funds).
  • Submit academic transcripts (official or unofficial) showing enrollment in the eligible program.
  • Provide résumé or curriculum vitae, statement of professional goals and commitment to the dietetics profession, and essays as required.
  • Two letters of recommendation: typically one academic and one professional. Additional documentation may include GRE scores or GPA verification for doctoral-track applicants.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic accomplishment and promise for advanced study in nutrition/dietetics.
  • Demonstrated readiness for advanced practice or research in dietetics and intent to contribute to the profession.
  • Completeness and quality of application materials, clarity of goals, and alignment with the mission of the Foundation.

Additional Details:

  • Individual scholarships vary widely in value, depending on donor funding and the specific named fund; amounts range from as low as $500 up to $25,000.
  • In the 2024-25 academic year, the scholarship portfolio awarded over 300 scholarships totaling approximately $818,650.
  • The centralized application typically opens in mid-February and closes in early April at 10:00 AM Central Time.

Deadline:
