Information and Eligibility:
The AIASWW Education Scholarship Fund, administered through the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington, supports the next generation of architectural professionals by assisting high school seniors from select Washington counties who aspire to study architecture at an accredited university. This scholarship encourages creativity, academic achievement, and a genuine interest in the design of the built environment. It recognizes students who demonstrate potential to contribute to the architectural profession and to their local communities through thoughtful, sustainable design.

The scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers and foster diversity and inclusion within the architectural field, ensuring that talented young designers from all backgrounds have the opportunity to pursue higher education in architecture. Recipients are selected based on academic excellence, artistic talent, portfolio quality, and a personal narrative that reflects their passion for architecture and the ways in which design can positively shape human experience.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Academic Standing: Must be a graduating high school senior or a first-year university student who previously graduated from one of the eligible counties.
  • Field of Study: Must plan to pursue a degree in architecture and be accepted into an accredited architectural program at a recognized university.
  • Commitment to Architecture: Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in design, sustainability, and community engagement through portfolio work and personal essays.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic Achievement: Evidence of strong academic performance, particularly in art, math, or design-related courses.
  • Personal Narrative: A written statement that conveys motivation for pursuing architecture and the applicant’s vision for contributing to the profession.
  • Portfolio: Samples of creative or architectural work that reflect originality, design potential, and problem-solving skills.
  • Community Connection: Consideration is given to applicants with a demonstrated connection to their local community or interest in designing for the Pacific Northwest region.

Additional Details:

  • The scholarship may be applied toward tuition, books, and other educational expenses directly related to architectural studies.
  • Award decisions are made by a committee of professionals and community representatives associated with the American Institute of Architects Southwest Washington chapter (AIASWW).
  • Recipients are encouraged to maintain academic excellence and remain engaged in design or architectural learning throughout their education.
