Name: Albert W. Dent and Foster G. McGaw Graduate Student Scholarships
Award Amount: $5,000
Information And Eligibility:
The Albert W. Dent and Foster G. McGaw Graduate Student Scholarships are nationally recognized graduate-level awards administered by the American College of Healthcare Executives to support students preparing for leadership careers in healthcare management. These scholarships honor two influential figures in healthcare administration: Albert W. Dent, the first African American Fellow of ACHE and a lifelong advocate for diversity and inclusion in healthcare leadership, and Foster G. McGaw, a pioneer in healthcare supply and hospital services whose work helped modernize healthcare delivery systems.
The scholarships are specifically designed for students in the final year of a healthcare management–focused graduate program. Eligible degree paths commonly include Master of Healthcare Administration, Master of Public Health, and MBA programs with a healthcare administration concentration. By targeting students near program completion, the scholarships aim to reduce financial pressure during a critical academic period and help recipients transition more confidently into leadership roles within healthcare organizations.
Selection is based on demonstrated financial need, academic readiness, and commitment to the healthcare management profession. The program prioritizes students who intend to pursue executive, operational, or strategic leadership roles within hospitals, health systems, public health organizations, and other healthcare-related institutions. Because the scholarships are intended to support emerging leaders, applicants who already hold paid healthcare management positions are not eligible.
Scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition, outstanding student loans, or other education-related expenses. In addition to financial support, recipients gain recognition from one of the most respected professional organizations in healthcare leadership. Being named a Dent or McGaw Scholar signals strong professional potential and alignment with ACHE’s mission to advance excellence in healthcare management.
The application window is limited, and awards are competitive. Applicants are encouraged to prepare materials carefully and ensure all eligibility criteria are met before submission. Because each applicant may receive only one of these scholarships during their academic career, the program helps broaden access to financial support across multiple graduating cohorts.
