Alexandra Ryan Swanson Live Your Dream Scholarship

Name: Alexandra Ryan Swanson Live Your Dream Scholarship

Award Amount: $2,500

Information And Eligibility:
The Alexandra Ryan Swanson Live Your Dream Scholarship was established to honor the resilience, determination, and strength of students who have faced significant personal adversity yet remain committed to achieving their educational goals. This scholarship is designed to provide both financial support and encouragement to individuals who have overcome meaningful life challenges and are actively working toward a brighter future through higher education.

Unlike traditional merit-only scholarships, the Live Your Dream Scholarship places a strong emphasis on personal perseverance, character, and growth. It recognizes that academic success is often achieved in spite of — not because of — ideal circumstances. Eligible applicants may have experienced hardship related to family responsibilities, health issues, financial instability, loss, trauma, or other significant obstacles that impacted their educational journey. The scholarship committee looks for students who demonstrate resilience, maturity, and a clear sense of purpose shaped by their experiences.

This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, an accredited four-year college or university or a graduate-level program. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, as this award is intended to help offset the cost of tuition, fees, books, and other education-related expenses that may otherwise pose a barrier to degree completion. The $2,500 award may be applied directly toward academic costs and does not require repayment.

A central component of the application is the personal essay, which gives applicants the opportunity to tell their story in their own words. The scholarship committee values authenticity, reflection, and clarity over perfection. Strong essays typically describe the challenges faced, the steps taken to overcome them, and how those experiences have influenced the applicant’s educational goals, values, and future aspirations. Applicants are encouraged to focus not only on hardship, but also on personal growth, lessons learned, and long-term goals.

Letters of recommendation play an important supporting role in the selection process. Recommenders should be individuals who can speak meaningfully about the applicant’s character, perseverance, and determination, such as teachers, professors, counselors, mentors, or supervisors. These letters help provide context and reinforce the applicant’s narrative of resilience and commitment to education.

Administered through the Arizona Community Foundation, the Alexandra Ryan Swanson Live Your Dream Scholarship follows a structured application process and timeline. While the scholarship is competitive, it is especially well-suited for students who may not fit traditional scholarship profiles but whose lived experiences demonstrate extraordinary determination and strength. Recipients of this scholarship are not only awarded financial assistance, but are also recognized for their courage and resolve in pursuing their dreams despite adversity.

This scholarship serves as a meaningful reminder that higher education is a powerful tool for transformation, and that personal challenges do not define limitations — they often define strength.
