Award Amount: $5,000 (plus complimentary registration and a $400 travel stipend for attending the AASV Annual Meeting)

Information And Eligibility:
The Angela Baysinger Memorial Scholarship is a prestigious annual award administered by the American Association of Swine Veterinarians Foundation to support students who are dedicated to advancing production animal welfare. Established in honor of Angela K. Baysinger, the scholarship reflects the Foundation’s commitment to collaboration across species and industries in order to improve animal welfare practices now and into the future.

The primary objective of this scholarship is to promote long-term improvements in production animal welfare by supporting experiential learning opportunities for the next generation of veterinarians and animal welfare scientists. The program is designed for individuals who are actively engaged in animal welfare science and who demonstrate a strong passion for expanding knowledge, research, and education related to the welfare of production animals.

Recipients of the scholarship are expected to contribute meaningfully to the body of animal welfare science through research, experiential learning, or applied practice. The program places strong emphasis on education and knowledge-sharing, with the goal of promoting animal welfare awareness among veterinary students, practicing veterinarians, and the broader public. Scholarship funds are intentionally flexible and may be used to support animal welfare research project costs, experiential learning opportunities, or travel to professional conferences that enhance welfare-related knowledge and skills.

Selected recipients receive $5,000 to support their interests in production animal welfare. In addition, awardees are expected to participate in the AASV Pig Welfare Committee meetings, which are held both in person at the AASV Annual Meeting and virtually throughout the year. Complimentary registration and an additional $400 travel stipend are provided for attendance at the AASV Annual Meeting, where recipients receive their scholarship. Students conducting welfare-related research are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract for presentation at the meeting, with opportunities available for veterinary students, graduate students, and residents to present their work in appropriate sessions.
