The APNA Board of Directors Student Scholarship, offered by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), supports aspiring psychiatric-mental health nurses by providing funded opportunities to attend the APNA Annual Conference and connect with a nationwide community of professionals in the field. Designed for both undergraduate/pre-licensure and graduate nursing students, this scholarship helps elevate emerging leaders in psychiatric-mental health nursing through immersive professional development, mentorship, and networking experiences. Selected students receive complimentary registration for the APNA Annual Conference as well as travel and lodging support to participate fully in the event. In addition, scholars are awarded a complimentary one-year membership in APNA, providing access to continuing education resources, professional networks, and career advancement tools. The scholarship is backed by support from educational grants and emphasizes participation in conference programming and engagement with the broader psychiatric nursing community.

This scholarship is competitive, with numerous student nurses selected each year from across the United States. Recipients include both pre-licensure/undergraduate students and graduate nursing students who have demonstrated academic promise, professional engagement, and interest in psychiatric-mental health nursing. As part of the selection process, applicants are also expected to engage with APNA members and may be required to complete program activities during and after the conference.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time nursing student in an accredited nursing program—either pre-licensure/undergraduate or graduate level—at the time of application.
  • Undergraduate students must be in a program leading to RN licensure. }
  • Graduate nursing students must be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral nursing program.
  • Must have completed at least half of required credits toward graduation at the time of application unless graduating that spring.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be nominated or supported by an APNA member (faculty, program director, or nurse professional).
  • Commit to full participation in the APNA Annual Conference, including travel and post-conference evaluation.

  • Completed APNA scholarship application form.
  • Official academic transcripts.
  • Letter of nomination/recommendation from an APNA member.
  • Statement of interest in psychiatric-mental health nursing (if requested).
  • Participation agreement for travel, lodging, and conference engagement.
