Information And Eligibility:
The Asian American Leaders in Mental Health Scholarship supports Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students pursuing careers in clinical mental health practice. Eligible applicants are U.S. citizens of Asian, Pacific Islander, or Asian Multiracial ethnicity, as defined by the U.S. Census. Preference is given to first-generation college or graduate students currently enrolled in counseling or counseling psychology master’s degree programs with pathways to clinical licensure. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to counseling communities of color and utilizing a social justice lens.

Application Requirements:

  • Complete the Universal Application – Cycle 2 through the scholarship lifecycle manager.
  • Provide a list of all extracurricular activities, community volunteering opportunities, and paid/unpaid work experiences.
  • Submit a college transcript.
  • Write two essays:
    • Describe yourself as a leader in the AAPI community using your role as a counselor to advance social justice. Reflect on your lived experiences, strengths, and areas of growth in elevating mental health as a community priority.
    • List and describe your experience with clinical practices and internships, including previous and current placements, locations, dates, and the nature of your interaction with patients and clients.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation:
    • One from an academic recommender.
    • One from a community recommender.

Additional Information:

  • Scholarship awards are one-time with the opportunity to re-apply for subsequent years.
  • Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, board, and any additional cost of attendance expenses.
  • All scholarships will be paid directly to the recipient’s school and must be used for the upcoming academic year.
  • Award disbursement is contingent upon the outside scholarship policies of the recipient’s college or university.
