BestCollege Black Women in STEM Scholarship

Name: $6,000 Scholarship for Black Women in STEM

Award Amount: $6,000

Information And Eligibility:
The $6,000 Scholarship for Black Women in STEM is a targeted educational award created to support Black women pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The scholarship addresses the persistent underrepresentation of Black women in STEM fields by helping reduce financial barriers that can limit access to academic opportunities, research experiences, and professional development. By investing directly in students at critical stages of their education, the program aims to strengthen diversity, innovation, and leadership within STEM disciplines.

This scholarship is designed for students who demonstrate both academic ability and a clear commitment to pursuing a STEM-related career. Applicants are encouraged to articulate how their academic interests align with long-term professional goals and how their participation in STEM fields can contribute to broader social, scientific, or technological advancement. Rather than focusing exclusively on grades, the selection process considers the applicant’s overall trajectory, including motivation, resilience, and potential for impact within their chosen field.

Eligible fields of study may include, but are not limited to, engineering, computer science, information technology, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, data science, and other interdisciplinary programs grounded in scientific or technical inquiry. Scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, and other education-related expenses, allowing recipients to focus more fully on academic performance, internships, and research opportunities without excessive financial strain.

The scholarship also emphasizes mentorship and representation. By supporting Black women in STEM, the program recognizes the importance of increasing visibility and leadership within fields where diversity has historically been limited. Recipients are often students who seek not only personal academic success, but also the opportunity to serve as role models, mentors, or advocates for greater inclusion within STEM education and professional spaces.

Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll at an accredited college or university in the United States for the upcoming academic term. A minimum grade point average is required to ensure academic readiness, and applicants must submit supporting materials that provide insight into their academic preparation and future goals. Because application requirements and review criteria may evolve, applicants are encouraged to carefully review the current guidelines before submitting materials.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must identify as a Black woman.
  • Must be enrolled or planning to enroll at an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed scholarship application form.
  • Official or unofficial academic transcripts.
  • Personal statement describing academic interests, career goals, and commitment to a STEM pathway.
  • At least one letter of recommendation from a teacher, mentor, or employer familiar with the applicant’s academic or professional background.
  • Any additional materials specified in the application instructions.
