Name: The HACE and Café Bustelo Cafe Del Futuro Scholarship Essay Contest

Information And Eligibility: HACE and Café Bustelo are giving away more than $45,000 in college scholarships to qualified students. This is a great non-GPA based scholarship opportunity for all qualifying college students. All applicants must be a legal resident of the United States, must be a permanent resident of one of the qualifying counties in Illinois, Texas, or California (see sponsor website for a list), must be 18 years of age or older, must be currently enrolled as a full-time college student, and must be of Latino descent. Qualified applicants are asked to submit an original essay of 800 words or less (in English or Spanish) on the following topic: Describe how your Latino heritage, family, and the community in which you grew up have impacted your desire and motivation to obtain a college degree. Additionally, describe what you intend to accomplish with your degree and how you will give back to your community. In addition to the essay applicants must also provide a letter of recommendation from a school advisor, community leader or mentor, and official proof of their current enrollment and registration from the college or university they are attending.
All qualified applicants and essays received by the scholarship deadline will be reviewed by a select panel of judges and assigned points based on the following criteria: connection to essay subject matter, plans for future accomplishments, plans to give back to your community, quality of writing and clear articulation of thoughts and concepts, and strength of recommendation letter. A total of nine $5,000 college scholarships will be awarded, three in the Illinois area, three in the Texas area, and three in the California area.
