Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Scholarships

Name: The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Scholarships

Award Amount:

  • Academic Scholarship: $1,500 per academic year, renewable up to three times for a total of $6,000.
  • Travel Scholarship: $1,000 for study abroad (non-renewable).

Information and Eligibility:
The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation was established in memory of Corinne Schillings, who tragically lost her life in a 2004 Baltimore Harbor water taxi accident. Corinne was passionate about languages, travel, and cultural exploration. To honor her legacy, the Foundation provides scholarships to young women who share her love of learning and global engagement.

The Foundation’s mission is to support college women in expanding their cultural horizons through foreign language study and study abroad experiences. The program is open exclusively to students who have earned the Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award—reflecting Corinne’s own lifelong connection to scouting and leadership.

Two types of scholarships are available:

  • Academic Scholarship: For undergraduate students who have earned the Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award and who are pursuing a major or minor in a foreign language at an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Travel Scholarship: For undergraduate students who have earned the Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award and are planning to study abroad, regardless of their major or minor.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be female undergraduate students enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Must have earned the Girl Scout Silver Award, Gold Award, or both.
  • For the Academic Scholarship:
    • Must be majoring or minoring in a foreign language.
    • Must have a cumulative and foreign language GPA of at least a “B.”
    • Provide proof of college acceptance (if incoming) or a current college transcript (if already attending).
    • Scholarship renewal requires annual submission of a renewal application and all required documents.
  • For the Travel Scholarship:
    • Must be planning to participate in an accredited study abroad program (summer, semester, or full academic year).
    • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least a “B.”
    • Provide proof of program acceptance and verification of Girl Scout award(s).
    • It is not necessary to be an Academic Scholarship recipient to apply.

Application Requirements:
Each application must include:

  • A completed application form (available on the Foundation website).
  • Proof of receipt of the Girl Scout Silver and/or Gold Award.
  • A letter of recommendation from a Girl Scout volunteer or staff member (non-relative), written within the past six months specifically for this scholarship.
  • Proof of acceptance to a college, university, or accredited study abroad program.
