Information and Eligibility:

Funded by Liaison International, the Deborah E. Trautman Future Nurse Leader Scholarship was created to honor AACN’s President and CEO Dr. Deborah Trautman. This scholarship aims to recognize graduate nursing students who aspire to leadership positions in academic nursing. It provides both financial support and leadership development opportunities.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Enrollment: Applicants must be currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral nursing program at an AACN member school affiliated with NursingCAS.
  • Academic Achievement: Must demonstrate high academic achievement in nursing and commitment to advancing in academic nursing.
  • Membership: Must be a member of AACN’s Graduate Nursing Student Academy (membership is free).
  • Leadership Aspiration: Applicants should aspire to a leadership position in academic nursing.

Application Process
All applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed Application: The scholarship application, including biographical and contact information for a faculty advisor.
  • Essay: A concise essay (no more than 500 words) outlining career achievements, desire for a leadership position in academia, and vision for academic nursing.
  • CV or Resume: A document detailing key milestones related to leadership and career development (e.g., conference attendance, poster presentations, publications).
  • Goals: 3-4 bullets outlining what the applicant hopes to achieve during the leadership development experience with Dr. Trautman.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation, including one from the nursing school dean or director.
  • Commitment Statement: A signed commitment statement agreeing to complete the 3-day leadership development component of the program (failure to complete this will forfeit the scholarship).
