The Dechra Veterinary Products Veterinary Scholarship is a nationally competitive scholarship program offered through a partnership between the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) and Dechra Veterinary Products. This program was established to support veterinary students who demonstrate a strong interest in specialized areas of clinical practice that are critical to advancing animal health, innovation, and high-quality veterinary care.

Through this scholarship program, a total of twenty $2,500 scholarships are awarded each year to veterinary students pursuing careers in equine sports medicine, internal medicine, dermatology, anesthesia, analgesia, surgery, or critical care. The awards are evenly distributed across specialty interests, with five scholarships designated for students interested in equine sports medicine, five for internal medicine, five for dermatology, and five for students focused on anesthesia, analgesia, surgery, or critical care. This structure reflects Dechra’s broad clinical focus and commitment to supporting excellence across multiple veterinary disciplines.

Dechra Veterinary Products is a global specialist in veterinary pharmaceuticals and is widely recognized as a leader in veterinary endocrinology and topical dermatology. The company also maintains a strong portfolio in analgesia, anesthetics, and pain management, and is known for innovation in areas such as equine lameness treatment and differentiated generics. The scholarship is intended for veterinary students who are currently in their clinical year of study and who plan to practice veterinary medicine in the United States. Selection is based on academic performance, demonstrated interest in one of the eligible specialty areas, and overall professional promise. Applicants must be enrolled in good standing at an AVMA Council on Education–accredited college of veterinary medicine and maintain a passing grade point average.

In addition to providing financial assistance, the Dechra Veterinary Products Veterinary Scholarship serves as professional recognition for students who are preparing to enter demanding and highly specialized areas of veterinary practice. By supporting students at the clinical stage of their education, the program helps offset educational costs during a critical period while reinforcing the importance of advanced training, innovation, and excellence in patient care.

Scholarship funds are distributed during the fall semester following the application cycle. The number of scholarships awarded and specialty categories may be adjusted by the scholarship committee from time to time to reflect evolving needs within the veterinary profession.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a United States citizen.
• Must be enrolled in the clinical year of study at an AVMA COE–accredited college of veterinary medicine.
• Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing.
• Must demonstrate interest in one of the designated specialty areas.
• Must intend to practice veterinary medicine in the United States.
