Information And Eligibility:
The Delaware Veterinary Medical Association (DVMA) offers multiple annual scholarships to support veterinary students with strong academic records, professional promise, and meaningful ties to the state of Delaware. During the academic year, eligible students may apply for up to three DVMA-administered scholarships using a single application, making this program a valuable opportunity for Delaware residents pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.

These scholarships were established to promote the continuation of high-quality veterinary care, encourage academic excellence, and recognize students who contribute positively to their schools and communities. DVMA’s scholarship offerings reflect a broad commitment to the profession, honoring clinical excellence, leadership, mentorship, and diversity, equity, and inclusion within veterinary medicine.

The DVMA / Merck Animal Health Student Scholarship is co-sponsored by Merck Animal Health and provides financial support to Delaware veterinary students to help ensure the future advancement of veterinary science and expert animal care. The Dr. Craig A. Stonesifer Veterinary Scholarship for Academic Excellence was created in perpetuity to honor Dr. Stonesifer’s decades-long dedication to veterinary medicine, surgery, mentorship, and professional leadership in Delaware. The DVMA / NVA DEI Scholarship recognizes a veterinary student who has actively advanced diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within their school or community.

All scholarships are open to Delaware residents who have completed at least one year of veterinary school and who meet minimum academic requirements. While previous recipients may reapply, preference is given to new applicants to expand access and opportunity. The DEI Scholarship includes an additional requirement that applicants demonstrate tangible contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

By offering these scholarships through a unified application process, DVMA reduces administrative barriers and encourages qualified students to be considered for multiple awards. Collectively, these scholarships represent DVMA’s ongoing investment in the education, leadership development, and professional growth of Delaware’s future veterinarians.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a Delaware resident, defined as a graduate of a Delaware high school, a resident of Delaware for at least three years, or having a permanent Delaware mailing address.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college of veterinary medicine.
• Must have completed at least the first year of veterinary school.
• Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Applicants for the DEI Scholarship must demonstrate advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

• Information outlining professional goals, achievements, and community involvement.
• Applicants select which scholarships they wish to be considered for using the same application.
