Information and Eligibility:
The Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards honor exceptional Jewish teens in the United States who lead initiatives that embody the Jewish value of tikkun olam (repairing the world). Each year up to fifteen teens are selected and each receives $36,000 to further their leadership, education or philanthropic work.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Age: Applicants must be between 15-19 years old at the time of the application deadline.
  • Identity: Applicants must self-identify as Jewish and be U.S. citizens or residents.
  • Leadership: The applicant must be currently serving in a leadership role on a volunteer initiative or project (that they did not receive compensation for), which demonstrates measurable impact.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed online application via the Diller Teen Awards portal.
  • Detailed description of the project or initiative, including goals, outcomes, leadership role and impact.
  • Optional attachments such as résumé, project documentation, budget, marketing materials (up to specified pages).
  • Applicants may be nominated by someone else (not required) and then must submit their application themselves.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated leadership on a single project or initiative rather than diverse unrelated involvement.
  • Measurable impact of the project, clarity of issue addressed, strategy and outcomes.
  • Engagement of others, sustainability of initiative and applicant’s vision for growth or continued impact.

Additional Details:

  • Recipients attend an Awards weekend retreat in San Francisco and join a national cohort of young Jewish leaders.
  • Award funds may be used for education or the recipient’s philanthropic/volunteer project at their discretion.
  • The program is administered by the Helen Diller Family Foundation in partnership with the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund.
