  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of application.

  • Include an unofficial transcript with the application; an official transcript will be required upon selection.
  • Obtain a letter of support from a proposed mentor at a hosting facility, detailing:
    • Familiarity with the applicant’s proposed research project.
    • Agreement with the scope of the research.
    • Confirmation of the hosting facility’s approval and ability to accommodate the research.
  • Secure two recommendation letters:
    • One from the applicant’s Ph.D. thesis or dissertation advisor.
    • One from another individual familiar with the applicant’s research and relevant experiences.

    • Mid-January for a summer start.
    • Early June for a winter start.
  • Award Notification: Applicants are typically notified within 3–4 months after the submission deadline.

  • One-time relocation allowance of $3,000 for participants relocating more than 50 miles to the hosting facility.
