Award Amount:

  • $1,250 awarded for the fall semester.

Overview:

Established in collaboration with Dr. Steve and Darla Frantz, this scholarship recognizes Dr. Frantz’s long-term commitment to students and LeadMN. It provides financial assistance to Minnesota State students who demonstrate leadership in academics, extracurricular activities, and community or national service. Priority is given to individuals who are serving or have served honorably in any branch of the United States Military or other U.S. national service and have exhausted federal and state service-related education benefits, excluding the Minnesota GI Bill.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in any Minnesota State college or university.
  • Demonstrate leadership in academics, extracurricular activities, and community or national service.
  • Maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Priority is given to those who:
    • Are serving or have served honorably in any branch of the United States Military or other U.S. national service.
    • Have exhausted federal and state service-related education benefits, excluding the Minnesota GI Bill.
  • Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) students are ineligible for this scholarship.

Application Process:

  • Complete and submit the online application by April 1 at 11:59 PM. The application for this scholarship is the same as the LeadMN Leadership Scholarship.
  • Provide typed responses (300-750 words each) to the following essay questions:
    • What does leadership mean to you?
    • What leadership skills do you have, and how have you used them in your education, community, and employment?
    • What does a college education mean to you, and how will this scholarship help you succeed?
  • Submit one letter of recommendation from a community, campus, or organization leader who can discuss your leadership skills (one letter should be from a peer).
  • Provide a copy of your unofficial transcript from your current institution.
  • Submit a leadership resume detailing your skills, how you’ve applied them, specific leadership roles you’ve held (including any military service), and examples of improvements or promotions.

Deadline:

  • Applications open on January 1 and close on April 1 at 11:59 PM for the fall semester.
