Information And Eligibility: To commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, The National Park Service and the African American Experience Fund of the National Park Foundation have teamed up to offer The Expressions Of Freedom Scholarship Contest. This college scholarship opportunity is open to all legal residents of the United States of America, who are between the ages of 13 and 18 at time of application. Applicants will be asked to submit an artistic project, which explores the personal meanings of freedom and relates to nationally significant themes such as: significance of the Emancipation Proclamation , significance of the Civil War, struggles of the American Civil Rights movement, and additional themes listed on the scholarship providers website. Applicants can choose from three different categories to submit their work to, these categories include: photography, poetry, and digital short films. Each submission will be judged by a panel of professional artists. The first place winner in each category will receive a $2,500 academic scholarship, and the second place winners in each category will receive a $1,000 academic scholarship.
