Information and Eligibility:
The Intel Science Talent Search Scholarships recognize the most promising young scientists in the United States and provide substantial financial support to students pursuing careers in the sciences. Known as the nation’s oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition, this program invites U.S. high-school seniors to submit original, independent scientific research projects for national recognition.
Each year, forty finalists are selected from thousands of applicants, representing the top young scientific talent in the country. Finalists travel to Washington, D.C. for a weeklong celebration of scientific achievement and compete for more than $1.25 million in scholarships.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Academic Level: Applicants must be U.S. high-school seniors.
  • Project Requirement: Must submit an original research project in a qualified scientific field.
  • Achievement: Applicants must demonstrate exceptional scientific ability, creativity and potential for future research contributions.

College Scholarship Prizes:

  • Grand Prize: $100,000 four-year scholarship.
  • Second Place: $75,000 scholarship.
  • Third Place: $50,000 scholarship.
  • Fourth Place: $40,000 scholarship.
  • Fifth Place: $30,000 scholarship.
  • Sixth–Seventh Place: $25,000 scholarship each.
  • Eighth–Tenth Place: $20,000 scholarship each.
  • Remaining 30 Finalists: $7,500 scholarship each.

Additional Finalist Benefits:

  • A new Intel-powered laptop.
  • All-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the finalist competition week.
  • Opportunities to meet national leaders, including top government officials.

Application Requirements:

  • Submission of an original scientific research project.
  • Completed application with personal, academic and project-specific documentation.

Selection Criteria:

  • Scientific merit, originality and depth of the submitted research project.
  • Applicant’s demonstrated scientific curiosity, problem-solving ability and potential for future research impact.
  • Quality and completeness of application materials.

Additional Details:

  • Finalists receive national media recognition and become part of a prestigious community of STEM scholars.
  • Scholarships may be applied toward tuition and other approved educational expenses at any accredited institution.
