Information And Eligibility:
The James Smithson Fellowship invites applications with the theme of “Migration,” encompassing topics ranging from the movement of species to the diaspora of humans. Migration is central to evolutionary dynamics, ecosystems, and cultural identity, making it a rich topic to explore across multiple disciplines, including art, history, culture, and science.

The fellowship offers early-career postdoctoral researchers the chance to engage with Smithsonian experts and collections, while exploring how their research fits within broader societal and policy contexts. This program is designed for individuals looking to deepen their expertise and gain experience in how research informs public policy.

Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens who are no more than five years beyond receiving their doctorate degree. Those with terminal professional degrees are also eligible. The program is open to researchers in science, humanities, and the arts.
