Eligible institutions include public and private Kentucky colleges, universities, and technical schools that participate in state financial aid programs. Students must be enrolled at least half-time in an eligible academic program, which may include associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, or approved certificate and diploma programs. The CAP Grant is intended to supplement other forms of financial aid, such as Federal Pell Grants, institutional scholarships, and work-study, helping students close remaining gaps in their cost of attendance.

Award amounts vary depending on the student’s level of financial need, enrollment status, cost of attendance, and available state funding. While the maximum award is $2,500 per year, not all students will receive the full amount. To remain eligible, recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by their college or university and must continue to demonstrate financial need each year. Students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree are not eligible for the CAP Grant, as the program is intended to support first-time undergraduate education.
