Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute Scholarship

Name: Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute Scholarship

Award Amount: $1,000

Information and Eligibility:
The Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute Scholarship provides support to students or residents linked to modular or manufactured housing, as well as to individuals pursuing trade or apprenticeship training in construction-related fields. The aim is to assist qualifying applicants who either live in manufactured homes or are preparing for careers in technical trades, helping offset school or training expenses. The program reflects KMHI’s commitment to giving back to the community, supporting education, and promoting skills development in housing- and construction-related industries.

Each year the institute awards a fixed number of scholarships in two categories: one set for trade/apprenticeship or technical training enrollees, and another for applicants who reside in manufactured or modular housing and are enrolling in college, technical school, or trade school. Winners receive a one-time award of $1,000 to help with tuition, training, or associated costs.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must either be enrolled (or accepted) in a technical center, trade school, or apprenticeship program — or must be a resident of a modular or manufactured home applying for post-secondary education, technical training, or trade school enrollment
  • Applicants submitting under the resident-housing category must currently live in a manufactured or modular home
  • Applicants submitting under the trade/apprenticeship category must be pursuing or accepted into a construction-related technical or apprenticeship program
  • Must submit required application materials: transcript (high school, GED, or college), references, and essay as specified

Application Requirements:

  • Copy of high school, GED, or current college transcript
  • Three letters of reference from business professionals, community leaders, or similar (not all from school personnel)
  • Written essay: for trade/apprenticeship applicants — explaining why they wish to enter the construction industry; for manufactured-home residents — describing how factory-built housing has influenced their life
  • Completed application submitted according to KMHI instructions

Selection Criteria:

  • Eligibility under either the trade/apprenticeship or resident-housing category
  • Clarity, sincerity, and strength of the essay response
  • Quality of references and overall application materials
  • Demonstrated commitment to education or training and alignment with program goals

Additional Details:

  • Two scholarship tracks are offered: Trade/Apprenticeship and Manufactured-Home Resident
  • Award is one-time, with $1,000 going toward school or training costs
  • Open to high school seniors, GED holders, or current students accepted into eligible programs
  • Encourages applicants from modest housing backgrounds or those entering technical trades

Deadline:
