Award Amount:

Overview:

The Luckyday Scholars Program, funded by the Luckyday Foundation established by Frank R. Day, provides scholarships to Mississippi high school seniors who demonstrate leadership skills, academic excellence, community involvement, and financial need. The program emphasizes student engagement through shared living spaces, community service, and leadership development.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a Mississippi resident.
  • Accepted as a freshman at The University of Southern Mississippi.
  • Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5.
  • Minimum ACT Superscore of 20.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and community service involvement.
  • Exhibit financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Application Requirements:

  • Complete the general application in the Golden Opportunities (GO) Scholarship Application System.
  • Submit a Counselor Report completed by a high school counselor.
  • Provide two recommendation forms:
    • One from an academic reference.
    • One from a service supervisor or organization advisor.
  • Submit the FAFSA.
  • Provide well-written, thoughtful responses to essay prompts.
  • Complete online interviews through the Big Interview platform.

Additional Information:

  • Freshman scholars are required to live in Luckyday Citizenship Hall and enroll in a 3-credit-hour seminar course focusing on servant leadership during their first fall semester.
  • Scholars must maintain a minimum GPA: 2.5 for freshmen and sophomores; 2.75 for juniors and seniors.
  • Participation in at least 10 hours of community service each semester, starting from the spring semester of the freshman year, is required.
