LULAC National Scholarship Fund

Name: The LULAC National Scholarship Fund

Award Amount: Varies

Information And Eligibility:
The LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF) is one of the most longstanding and impactful scholarship initiatives supporting Hispanic and Latinx students in the United States. As a program coordinated nationally by the LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC), it partners with local LULAC councils and corporate sponsors to raise scholarship funds and provide direct financial support to students pursuing higher education. Each year, the program awards more than $750,000 in scholarships to degree-seeking students across the country, helping to open doors to academic success, leadership development, and long-term career opportunities.

A defining feature of the LNSF is its grassroots structure. Local LULAC councils conduct fundraising efforts within their communities and, combined with national corporate partnerships, are able to support a broad and diverse group of students. The program is designed to uplift Hispanic students by increasing access to higher education and preparing future leaders who will continue to contribute to their communities. Scholarships are available to students pursuing associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees, as well as those enrolled in accredited vocational and technical programs.

To qualify for the LULAC National Scholarship Fund, applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents and must either be enrolled in or have applied to a college, university, graduate program, community college, or an accredited technical/vocational school. The program offers three tiers of awards, each with its own criteria and funding levels:

  • National Scholastic Achievement Awards: Designed for students with outstanding academic records, typically requiring a high GPA, honors coursework, and demonstrated scholastic excellence.
  • Honors Awards: Awarded to students who have strong academic performance combined with involvement in extracurricular activities, leadership, or community engagement.
  • General Awards: Open to students who meet minimum academic standards and demonstrate motivation, ambition, and potential for success in higher education.

Selection criteria may vary slightly by local council, but applicants are generally evaluated on a combination of academic achievement, personal motivation, leadership qualities, financial need, community involvement, and future goals. Many councils may require supporting documents such as transcripts, letters of recommendation, personal statements, and proof of enrollment or application.

The LNSF is particularly beneficial because it is open to a wide range of degree paths and academic levels, making it accessible to traditional students, non-traditional students, first-generation scholars, and those pursuing vocational careers. Whether students are entering a two-year program, transferring to a university, or seeking an advanced degree, this program provides meaningful financial support while reinforcing the mission of LULAC: advancing educational equity and empowering Hispanic communities.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  • Must have applied to or be currently enrolled in a college, university, graduate school, community college, or accredited vocational/technical school.
  • Must meet specific academic criteria required for the award tier (General, Honors, or National Scholastic Achievement).

Application Requirements:

  • Completed scholarship application (submitted through a participating local LULAC council).
  • Official or unofficial academic transcript.
  • Letters of recommendation (varies by council).
  • Personal statement or essay.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency.

Deadline: Varies by local council
