The Scholarship offered by the Maine Campground Owners Association (MECOA) supports Maine students who are pursuing education in outdoor recreation, hospitality or related fields. The award is designed to help prepare the next generation of professionals in Maine’s campground, outdoor-hospitality and recreation sectors. Students must have completed at least one year of post-secondary education and meet academic and financial-need criteria.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • GPA Requirement: Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent.

  • Completed MECOA scholarship application form with personal, enrollment and career-goal information.
  • Official or unofficial transcript showing current status and minimum GPA requirement.
  • Résumé or personal statement describing applicant’s intent to pursue a career in outdoor recreation and how the scholarship will support their professional development.
  • Financial-need information may be requested; employment and extracurricular involvement may be considered.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic readiness and ability to succeed in an outdoor-recreation or hospitality program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to outdoor recreation, hospitality, campground management or related sectors.
  • Quality of application materials: transcript, résumé/personal statement, and relevance of goals to the mission of MECOA.

Additional Details:

  • The $500 award is non-renewable unless otherwise noted; applicants may re-apply in future years if still eligible.
  • Award funds are paid directly to the recipient’s institution or applied toward tuition, fees or training-related costs in the outdoor recreation/hospitality domain.
