Marriott Foundation Scholarship

Name: Richard E. & Nancy P. Marriott Foundation Scholarship

Award Amount: At least $1,000 annually (final amount varies based on financial need, cost of attendance, and available resources)

Information and Eligibility:
The Richard E. & Nancy P. Marriott Foundation Scholarship provides renewable financial support to undergraduate students who demonstrate strong academic potential, clear personal goals, and active engagement in their communities. Established to help students overcome financial barriers while pursuing higher education, this scholarship considers academic performance, financial need, recommendations, and a reflective personal essay as part of its holistic review.

Awards begin at a minimum of $1,000 per year but may be higher depending on the student’s demonstrated need and educational expenses. Recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three additional years—or until the completion of their undergraduate degree—by maintaining eligibility and submitting a renewal application annually. The Foundation emphasizes long-term academic persistence and aims to support students throughout their full program of study.

Eligible applicants must be attending or planning to attend (within one year) one of the following universities:

  • BYU–Idaho
  • BYU–Hawaii
  • BYU–Provo
  • Southern Virginia University
  • University of Utah
  • Utah State University
  • Utah Valley University
  • Weber State University

Students must be pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree and have at least one year remaining in their program. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required to remain eligible. Because the scholarship is renewable, students should be prepared to complete a renewal application each year.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must attend or plan to attend one of the listed eligible universities within one year.
  • Must pursue a full-time undergraduate degree with at least one year remaining.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Must reapply each year to renew the award.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed scholarship application form
  • Typed essay (maximum 500 words) describing a meaningful past experience
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Most recent academic transcript
  • Copy of Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA
  • Phone interview for semi-finalists

Deadline: Varies — see program website for current deadlines.
