Information and Eligibility:

The Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship (MMB) provides financial assistance to Florida students attending one of the four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Florida: Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters University, Florida A&M University, and Florida Memorial University. This scholarship honors the legacy of Mary McLeod Bethune and supports students with high academic achievement and financial need.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Residency: Must be a Florida resident and U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • Enrollment: Must enroll full-time as an undergraduate student at one of Florida’s HBCUs.
  • Academic Achievement:
    • New applicants must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0.
    • Renewal applicants must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Financial Need: Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Selection Criteria:

  • High academic achievement and GPA.
  • Demonstrated financial need.
  • Enrollment in one of Florida’s four HBCUs.

Application Requirements:

  • Complete and submit the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA).
  • File the FAFSA to demonstrate financial need.
  • Submit proof of enrollment at one of Florida’s HBCUs.
  • Include transcripts showing GPA and academic performance.

  • Application Deadline: April 1

Additional Information:

  • The scholarship is renewable for up to eight semesters or until the completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.
  • Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment and a minimum GPA of 3.0 to retain eligibility.
