Information and Eligibility:

The Mary McMillan Scholarship Award, offered by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), honors exceptional physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students in their final year of study. Recipients are selected based on academic excellence, leadership, service, and potential contributions to the profession. Only one nominee per PT program and one per PTA program is allowed from each institution. Nominees must be APTA members in good standing and within 12 months of completing their degree from a CAPTE-accredited program.

Selection criteria include:

• Superior scholastic performance.
• Academic honors, extracurricular involvement, and productivity.
• Evidence of professional impact, such as research, presentations, or publications.
• Demonstrated service to APTA at the student, component, or national level.

Application Process
Applications are submitted by program faculty and must include:

• Completed student application form
• Current enrollment verification form
• One personal essay as specified in the application
• Two letters of support (one from faculty, one from the student body), each up to two pages

The nomination window opens annually on September 1 and closes on December 1. Recipients and their nominators are notified in May.
