Maryland Graduate and Professional Scholarship Program

Name: Maryland Graduate and Professional Scholarship Program

Award Amount: $1,000 – $5,000 per year

Information And Eligibility:
The Graduate and Professional Scholarship Program provides need-based financial assistance to students pursuing advanced degrees in high-demand professional fields. Designed to help reduce the financial burden of graduate and professional education, this scholarship supports students who are committed to completing rigorous academic programs that lead to careers serving the public good.

This program is intended for degree-seeking graduate and professional students enrolled in fields such as medicine, nursing, dentistry, law, pharmacy, social work, and veterinary medicine. By assisting students during some of the most academically and financially demanding years of their education, the scholarship helps promote access to professional careers that are critical to healthcare, legal services, and community support systems.

Funding decisions are made primarily on the basis of financial need, as demonstrated through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applicants must also work directly with the financial aid office of the institution they plan to attend, as schools play a central role in determining eligibility, awarding funds, and managing renewals.

  • Provides financial support to graduate and professional students
  • Designed to reduce financial barriers to advanced education
  • Supports careers in healthcare, law, social work, and related fields
  • Awarded based on demonstrated financial need

The scholarship is open to students enrolled either part-time or full-time, as long as they are pursuing an eligible degree and meet residency requirements. Awards range from a minimum of $1,000 per year up to a maximum of $5,000 per year, depending on funding availability and individual need. Because funds are limited, not all eligible applicants are guaranteed to receive an award.

  • Minimum award of $1,000 per academic year
  • Maximum award of $5,000 per academic year
  • Funding availability may limit the number of recipients

Eligible institutions include select professional schools and universities offering approved graduate and professional programs. These include specific schools of medicine, dentistry, law, pharmacy, social work, veterinary medicine, and certain institutions offering master’s degrees in nursing or social work. Applicants should confirm program eligibility with their school’s financial aid office.

The scholarship may be renewed for up to eight semesters, provided the student continues to meet all eligibility criteria. Renewal decisions are made by the institution and require the student to maintain satisfactory academic progress, remain enrolled in an eligible program, demonstrate continued financial need, and submit a FAFSA each year.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a Maryland resident
  • Must demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA
  • Must be enrolled as a degree-seeking graduate or professional student
  • Must attend an eligible institution and program
  • Must maintain satisfactory academic progress

Deadline: Varies by institution
