Information And Eligibility: The Matters of Life & Death Scholarship Writing Contest hopes to help students gain awareness of the end-of-life decision making process, while providing students within the community seeking a college education some funding for their college costs. This college scholarship opportunity is open to any high school student in their junior or senior year, currently attending a California high school (home schooled students may also apply). Qualified applicants must be planning to pursue a undergraduate college degree at any accredited school, university or college within the United States, and must be a current United States citizen or permanent resident. Students will be asked to complete the scholarship application, and will be asked to answer the following short essay question (in 1,000 words or less): Why do I need an advance directive when I turn 18? All qualified essays received by the application deadline will be judged on creativity, quality of writing, organization of essay topic, clarity, and familiarity with the issue of advance directive. Three winners will be selected to win a college scholarship of $1,000 for First Place, $500 for Second Place, and $250 for Third Place.
