May Firm Bi‑Annual Scholarship Fund

Name: The May Firm Bi‑Annual Scholarship Fund

Award Amount: $1,000

  • One $1,000 scholarship awarded twice per year.

Information and Eligibility:

The May Firm Bi‑Annual Scholarship is offered by The May Firm, a California-based personal injury law firm founded by attorney Robert May—himself the first in his family to attend college. The scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers and support students pursuing higher education by recognizing resilience and personal growth following adversity.

Applicants are required to submit a 300-word essay describing a traumatic experience in their life and how they overcame it. In addition, applicants must include a current resume listing their GPA and the college or community college they attend or plan to attend. Winners are chosen based on the essay’s quality and personal insight rather than academic merit or financial need.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Enrollment: Must be enrolled in or planning to attend a U.S. community college or four-year university.
  • Nationality: Open to citizens of any country (U.S., Canada, and international).
  • Essay Prompt: A 300+ word essay on one traumatic experience and what you learned from it.
  • Resume: Must include current GPA and institution name.

Application Process
All applicants must submit:

  • Completed Application Form: Available online through The May Firm’s website.
  • Essay: A minimum of 300 words addressing the assigned prompt.
  • Resume: Including academic information and GPA.

Deadline:

  • Fall Cycle: Submit by September 15 (winners announced ~September 20)
  • Winter/Spring Cycle: Submit by January 5 (winners announced ~January 20)

Scholarship winners are publicly announced and recognized on the firm’s Facebook page shortly after selection.
