Mesothelioma Help Scholarship

Name: The Mesothelioma Help Scholarship

Award Amount: Varies

Information And Eligibility:
The Mesothelioma Help Scholarship is an annual, essay-based scholarship program created to support students in their educational goals while increasing public awareness of mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer most commonly caused by asbestos exposure. Offered through MesotheliomaHelp.net, this scholarship encourages students to engage in meaningful research and writing about an important public health issue that has affected thousands of individuals and families across the United States.

Each year, the program awards multiple scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled at accredited colleges or universities in the United States. One of the defining features of the Mesothelioma Help Scholarship is its accessibility. There is no minimum GPA requirement, allowing students from diverse academic backgrounds to compete based on the strength of their writing, research, and critical thinking rather than solely on grades.

Applicants must submit one original essay between 750 and 1,500 words, choosing one of three approved topics related to mesothelioma. These topics include telling the personal story of a mesothelioma survivor, exploring the history of asbestos use in American industry and manufacturing, or examining recent advancements and emerging treatments for mesothelioma. Each topic is designed to promote awareness, education, and thoughtful discussion around the disease and its broader social impact.

Essays are evaluated by the partners of Belluck & Fox, LLP, a nationally recognized law firm with extensive experience advocating for mesothelioma patients and their families. Submissions are judged on writing quality, accuracy of information, organization, grammar, originality, and the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively. Only one essay may be submitted per applicant, and all work must be entirely original.

Scholarship funds may be used for tuition or other qualified education-related expenses such as textbooks, academic fees, or required course materials. Selected essays may also be featured on MesotheliomaHelp.net, helping further the organization’s mission of raising awareness and honoring those impacted by mesothelioma.

This scholarship is open to students in all majors, though it may be particularly appealing to those studying healthcare, science, public policy, history, law, or communications. By participating, students not only compete for financial support but also contribute to a broader public understanding of asbestos-related disease and prevention.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Institution must be an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • No minimum GPA requirement.
  • Must submit one original essay between 750 and 1,500 words.
  • Essay must address one of the approved mesothelioma-related topics.
  • Scholarship funds must be used for education-related expenses.

  • Completed online scholarship application.
  • One original, well-researched essay meeting length and topic guidelines.
