The Minority Teacher Education Scholarship (MTES) is designed to support Florida minority students pursuing teaching degrees. The scholarship aims to address the shortage of minority teachers in Florida’s schools and encourage diversity in education.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Residency: Must be a Florida resident and U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • Enrollment: Must enroll full-time in a state-approved teacher education program at one of Florida’s eligible postsecondary institutions.
  • Ethnicity: Must identify as a minority as defined by the program (e.g., African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American, or Native American).
  • Academic Performance: Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Selection Criteria:

  • Commitment to pursuing a career in teaching.
  • Demonstrated academic performance and potential for success in an education program.
  • Enrollment in an eligible teacher preparation program.

Application Requirements:

  • Complete and submit the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA).
  • File the FAFSA to determine financial need, if applicable.
  • Provide proof of enrollment in an approved teacher education program.
  • Submit a personal statement describing your interest in teaching and plans to contribute to Florida’s education system.
