National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship Application

Name: National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarship Application

Award Amount:

  • Scholarship award amounts vary depending on the specific scholarship. Awards may be based on academic performance, financial need, and donor-specific criteria.

Overview:

Welcome to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Scholarship Opportunities Homepage. DAR offers a variety of scholarships to U.S. citizens attending or planning to attend an accredited college or university in the United States. The application process is open annually from November 1st until January 31st. Applicants are required to establish a Blackbaud ID (BBID) using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) before accessing the scholarship platform. This additional step enhances the security of applicants confidential information.

Each scholarship opportunity has its own individual criteria and may require specific documents to be uploaded into your application. Scholarships range from nursing, medicine, occupational or physical therapy, law, business administration, English, math, chemistry, music (voice or piano only), American history, history, government, American Studies, historic preservation, horticulture, and elementary and secondary education. Two scholarships are specifically for Native American students (proof of membership in a federal or state-recognized tribe is required), and over twenty scholarship opportunities are for graduating high school students, college undergraduate students, or graduate students. Additionally, two scholarships are specifically for DAR members or DAR descendants/dependents (DAR member’s name, national membership number, and your relationship to the DAR member must be provided).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen attending or planning to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.
  • DAR chapter sponsorship is not required; however, a DAR member may be used as a reference or may assist you with your application.
  • Specific scholarships may have additional criteria, such as financial need, enrollment in a particular program, or proof of tribal membership for Native American scholarships.

Application Process:

  • Establish a Blackbaud ID (BBID) using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to access the scholarship platform.
  • Complete the general scholarship application, which includes providing personal information, academic history, and extracurricular activities.
  • Upload required documents, including a personal statement (1,000 words or less), transcripts, proof of U.S. citizenship, and a one-page document listing extracurricular activities, honors received, and scholastic achievements.
  • Request letters of recommendation from at least two individuals who can speak to your abilities, work habits, integrity, character, potential, and volunteer activities. Note that a relative may not provide a letter of recommendation.
  • Submit the application by the deadline of January 31st. No exceptions will be made.

Deadline:

  • Application period: November 1st to January 31st annually.
  • All information must be submitted by the January 31st deadline. No exceptions will be made.

Additional Information:

  • Once the application window closes, your application status may change as it goes through the judging/review process. Each eligible scholarship application is reviewed independently by three judges using a standardized rubric unique to each scholarship.
  • All applicants will receive an email notification by the second week of May, whether selected as a scholarship recipient or not. The notification will be sent to the email address provided in your scholarship application profile.
  • If selected as a recipient, you will be asked to provide an official copy of your transcripts and complete a scholarship acceptance form. Scholarship award checks are mailed directly to your academic institution to be placed in your student account for use with expenses such as tuition and fees, housing, books, and other expenses allowed by your college/university. Award checks are never mailed directly to the scholarship recipient.
  • Applicants are eligible to receive only one scholarship from DAR each award cycle.
  • Scholarship awards are issued and mailed in August/September for use for the Fall Semester. We are unable to accommodate special requests from applicants wanting to delay the awarding of scholarships for the Spring Semester or other time periods. Additionally, recipients must be currently enrolled as a student for the scholarship award to be issued. We are also unable to accommodate gap year requests.
  • Failure to provide your official transcripts and completed scholarship acceptance form by the specified date will result in the scholarship not being awarded.
