Information and Eligibility:
The New Mexico 4‑H Youth Development Foundation offers the Academic Scholarship program to support past or current members of New Mexico 4‑H Program who plan to pursue post-secondary education at two-year or four-year colleges or universities in the U.S. The scholarship is designed to recognize 4-H members’ achievements and encourage their continued growth as productive citizens. Applicants must have participated in 4-H and demonstrate academic readiness and commitment to their educational goals.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Membership: Applicant must be a member (or former member) of the New Mexico 4-H Program.
  • Academic Level: High-school senior, incoming freshman, or current undergraduate student enrolled in full-time study at an accredited institution.
  • Residency/Enrollment: Applicant must reside in New Mexico and attend an accredited U.S. institution (either in-state or out-of-state).

Application Requirements:

  • A completed scholarship application form provided by the 4-H Foundation.
  • An official or unofficial transcript showing current academic standing and enrollment.
  • A résumé or personal statement describing the applicant’s 4-H involvement, educational goals, career plans and how the scholarship would support them.
  • One or more letters of recommendation from a 4-H agent, educator or community leader familiar with the applicant’s character and 4-H experience.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic achievement and potential as shown by transcript and résumé.
  • Demonstrated involvement in 4-H activities, leadership roles and community service.
  • Clarity and relevance of educational and career goals aligned with the values of 4-H and the Foundation.

Additional Details:

  • Each year the Foundation’s board determines the number of awards and their values based on available funds.
  • Award funds may be used for tuition, fees, books or other approved educational expenses and are typically paid directly to the eligible institution or the student.
