Name: New Mexico Credit Union Education Foundation Scholarship

Award Amount: $500 each

Information and Eligibility:
The New Mexico Credit Union Education Foundation (NMCUEF) awards annual scholarships to New Mexico residents who plan to pursue post-secondary education in the state. These scholarships are aimed at supporting students attending vocational/technical schools, community colleges, or four-year universities—and applicants must reside in New Mexico and enroll in an accredited institution within the state.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Residency: Applicant must be a New Mexico resident (typically with at least one year of state residency).
  • Academic Level: Applicants may be high-school seniors or current undergraduate students enrolled full-time (12 credit hours minimum) at an accredited college, technical school or university in New Mexico.
  • GPA Requirement: Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of approximately 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale) for consideration.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed scholarship application form from NMCUEF specifying personal details, enrollment/acceptance information, and other eligibility data.
  • Official or unofficial transcripts evidencing enrollment and GPA.
  • At least one letter of recommendation from a teacher, employer, counselor or mentor familiar with the applicant’s academic or work performance.
  • Proof of full-time enrollment (12+ credit hours) at an approved institution in New Mexico (for undergraduates).

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated scholastic achievement (GPA, coursework) and readiness for post-secondary education.
  • Financial need, work experience, extracurricular or service involvement may also be considered by the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
  • Completeness and presentation of the application materials, references and transcripts.

Additional Details:

  • For example, in one year the Foundation awarded nearly 70 scholarships valued at $500 each to full-time undergraduates in the state.
  • Awards are paid directly to the student’s enrolled institution at the beginning of the academic term and are non-renewable (applicants may re-apply each year).
  • Applications must be postmarked by the stated deadline and hand-delivered applications are not accepted.
