Information and Eligibility:
The scholarship program offered by the New Mexico Petroleum Marketers Association (NMPMA) – in partnership with the regional Western Petroleum Marketers Association (WPMA) – supports children or dependents of petroleum marketer member companies who are entering their first year of full-time post-secondary study. The intent is to assist qualified students connected to the petroleum marketing and convenience store industry in New Mexico and help build workplace and leadership opportunities within the sector.
Eligibility criteria include:

• Affiliation: Applicant must be the child or dependent of a NMPMA member company (or the full-time employee of such a company) in New Mexico.
• Academic Level: Applicant must be a graduating high-school senior, or equivalent, and entering a full-time college/university program in the fall term.
• Residency/State Area: Applicant must reside in New Mexico and be associated with a member company of the NMPMA/WPMA network.

Application Requirements:

• Completed scholarship application form provided via the WPMA scholarship portal (selecting New Mexico state eligibility).
• Official high-school transcript showing final GPA and expected graduation.
• Résumé or statement of extracurricular activities, involvement, community service and industry-affiliated work if any.
• Short essay describing the applicant’s educational goals, connection to the petroleum/c-store industry, how the scholarship will support their career path, and why they represent a future leader for the field.

Selection Criteria:

• Academic performance (strong GPA for graduating seniors) and readiness for college study.
• Demonstrated leadership potential, especially with ties to the petroleum marketing or convenience store sector.
• Quality of application materials: transcript, résumé/essay, affiliation proof and demonstrating alignment with the scholarship’s mission of supporting industry-related students.

Additional Details:

• Award values may vary annually; recent WPMA state-scholarship winners received awards of approximately $10,000 paid in annual installments.
• Applicants do not need to major in petroleum marketing—but must show the industry connection in their application and affiliation to a member company.
• Funds are paid directly to the college/university over several years rather than a single lump-sum.
