The New York State Excelsior Scholarship provides eligible students with the opportunity to attend a State University of New York (SUNY) or City University of New York (CUNY) institution tuition-free. This program is designed to support low- and middle-income families, ensuring greater access to higher education. The scholarship covers tuition for students who meet academic, income, and residency requirements, making college more affordable and accessible.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a resident of New York State for at least 12 months prior to the application.
• Must attend a SUNY or CUNY institution for an undergraduate degree.
• Have a family federal adjusted gross income of $125,000 or less.
• Must enroll in at least 12 credits per term and complete 30 credits per year (including summer and winter terms).
• Must maintain satisfactory academic progress and meet program-specific GPA requirements.
• Commit to living and working in New York State for the length of time the award was received after graduation.

Application Requirements:

• Complete the Excelsior Scholarship application through the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) portal.
• Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application.
• Provide proof of residency and income as requested by HESC.
• Ensure enrollment in a full-time undergraduate program at a SUNY or CUNY institution.
