Name: Resident Emergency Educational Grant (REEG) Program
Award Amount: $1,500 per approved event
Information And Eligibility:
The Resident Emergency Educational Grant (REEG) Program is a needs-based support initiative created to assist nurse anesthesia residents who experience significant financial hardship as a result of a natural disaster designated by a federal or state government. Administered by the AANA Foundation, the REEG Program is designed to help residents remain enrolled and progress toward graduation when unexpected emergencies threaten their ability to continue their nurse anesthesiology education.
Natural disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires, floods, severe storms, or other declared emergencies can create sudden financial strain through housing displacement, loss of income, damage to personal property, or increased living expenses. The REEG Program exists to provide timely, targeted financial relief in these situations, recognizing that residents often have limited financial flexibility while enrolled in intensive anesthesia training programs.
The grant provides a one-time award of $1,500 per qualifying event and may be used to help offset education-related or emergency expenses that directly impact a resident’s ability to continue their program. Funding applications are limited to one per person per event, and all requests are reviewed individually to account for the unique circumstances of each applicant. While residents may apply at any point during their nurse anesthesiology program, priority consideration is given to those who are within 12 months of graduation, as disruptions at this stage may be especially detrimental.
The AANA Foundation emphasizes that the REEG Program is intended to supplement—not replace—other forms of financial assistance. It is not the Foundation’s policy to serve as the first or sole source of emergency funding, and applicants may be asked to demonstrate that other avenues of support have been explored when appropriate. This approach ensures that emergency funds are distributed responsibly while reaching residents with genuine, documented need.
Applicants must be actively enrolled nurse anesthesia residents in good standing at an accredited program. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, allowing residents to apply as soon as a qualifying emergency occurs. Each application is evaluated case by case, with careful consideration given to the nature of the disaster, the financial impact on the resident, and the potential effect on educational progression.
Through the Resident Emergency Educational Grant Program, the AANA Foundation provides critical, compassionate support to residents facing circumstances beyond their control. By helping residents navigate emergency disruptions, the program reinforces the Foundation’s commitment to educational continuity, professional resilience, and the long-term strength of the nurse anesthesia profession.
