Award Amount: $10,000, $7,500, $5,000, and $2,000

Information and Eligibility:
The Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship was established in 1992 by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) to honor the memories of Larry Jennings and Tracy Ritchie, two ACFE members who lost their lives in a terrorist attack in 1997. This scholarship supports students pursuing a career in fraud examination and related fields, providing financial assistance to students committed to the fight against fraud. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence and encourages students to contribute to the anti-fraud community.

The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, leadership potential, and the applicant’s demonstrated interest in fraud prevention and investigation. Award amounts vary, with the highest award being $10,000, followed by $7,500, $5,000, and $2,000 for other recipients. The funds are provided directly to the recipient’s educational institution to cover tuition, fees, or other educational expenses.

Eligibility for the Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship includes the following criteria:

  • Field of Study: Applicants must be pursuing a major or minor in accounting, business administration, finance, criminal justice, or any fraud-related discipline, such as forensic accounting or fraud investigation.
  • Academic Enrollment: The scholarship is available to students who are enrolled full-time in a degree program at an accredited four-year college or university. Undergraduate students must be in the second half of their sophomore year, junior, or senior year. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least six semester hours per term.
  • Career Intentions: Applicants must express a clear interest in pursuing a career in fraud examination, forensic accounting, or a related field. This includes students planning to take on roles in anti-fraud initiatives, corporate security, or financial fraud investigation.
  • Recommendations: Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation, preferably from professors, instructors, or academic advisors who are familiar with the student’s academic abilities, achievements, and professional potential in the fraud examination field.

The scholarship also includes a one-year membership to the ACFE, which provides access to valuable educational resources, networking opportunities, and professional development in the field of fraud prevention. Scholarship recipients are part of an extensive network of professionals dedicated to preventing and detecting fraud in businesses, government, and other sectors globally.

Deadline: The application deadline is typically in the spring, usually by the end of February. Be sure to check the ACFE website for exact dates each year.
