Information And Eligibility:

The Samsung American Legion Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for high school students who are direct descendants of veterans who served during the Korean War. In partnership with The American Legion, Samsung has committed to awarding $300,000 in scholarships each year to nearly 100 students who participate in Boys State and Girls State programs. This scholarship program honors the service and sacrifices of Korean War veterans.

Eligible students must be the direct descendants (children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren) of a veteran who served during the Korean War and is eligible for membership in The American Legion. Scholarships may be used for undergraduate study at an accredited institution and can cover tuition, books, fees, and room and board. Applicants are evaluated based on their academic performance, involvement in school and community activities, community service, and financial need. Special consideration is given to those applicants who are descendants of Korean War veterans.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a high school student participating in Boys State or Girls State.
  • Must be a direct descendant (child, grandchild, or great-grandchild) of a veteran who served during the Korean War and is eligible for American Legion membership.
  • Must demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement.
  • Special consideration will be given to descendants of Korean War veterans.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must submit an application that includes personal essays, academic records, and information about their community service and leadership roles. Applicants will also need to provide proof of their lineage to a Korean War veteran. Selection is based on merit, leadership, and community involvement.
