The School Band and Orchestra Scholarship Contest is an exciting opportunity for students in grades four through twelve, including homeschooled students. This contest is designed for young musicians who are passionate about music and are interested in pursuing further education. To participate, students must submit a short essay of 250 words or less, answering the prompt provided in the scholarship application.
The contest is divided into two categories: one for students in grades 4 to 8 and one for students in grades 9 to 12. Ten scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded — five scholarships will go to students in grades 4 to 8, and the other five will be awarded to students in grades 9 to 12. In addition to the scholarships, merchandising prizes will be provided by Alfred Publishing and Yamaha Corporation of America.
Entries will be judged by the SBO Magazine Editorial Board, along with a panel of music professionals. The judges will evaluate submissions based on creativity, quality of writing, and how well the essay addresses the theme. This is a great opportunity for students passionate about music to earn a scholarship while showcasing their writing skills and musical interests.
