Name: The Sharps Compliance Scholarship
Award Amount: $1,500
Information And Eligibility:
The Sharps Compliance Scholarship is a national essay-based competition designed to bring greater awareness to the issue of accidental needle-stick injuries occurring outside traditional healthcare environments. Sharps Compliance, Inc.—a company specializing in the safe disposal of medical waste—created this scholarship to encourage future healthcare professionals to explore and communicate the importance of safe sharps management. In doing so, the scholarship aims to reduce injuries, promote public health education, and empower students pursuing careers in healthcare with both knowledge and financial support.
Applicants must submit a detailed essay between 1,250 and 1,500 words that thoughtfully addresses a prompt related to accidental needle-stick injuries, sharps safety, or the larger public health implications of improper medical waste disposal. Essays are expected to demonstrate critical thinking, accuracy, and meaningful insight into the healthcare challenges associated with sharps safety. Students are encouraged to draw from coursework, personal experiences, research, and examples of community or clinical practice to support their perspectives.
The competition awards three scholarships based on the quality of submissions. The first-place winner receives a $1,500 scholarship, second place receives $1,000, and third place receives $750. These awards are intended to help offset tuition, textbooks, program fees, or other educational expenses for students preparing to enter healthcare professions.
Because healthcare programs require significant training, this scholarship specifically targets students who are currently enrolled in fields related to health sciences. This includes majors such as nursing, public health, pre-med, allied health, pharmacy, and other clinical or health-related disciplines. U.S. and Canadian students are welcome to apply, provided they are attending accredited colleges or universities.
