The Tannenwald Writing Competition Scholarship encourages high-level legal scholarship in the field of tax law. Sponsored by the Theodore Tannenwald, Jr. Foundation for Excellence in Tax Scholarship and The American College of Tax Counsel, this competition honors the legacy of Judge Theodore Tannenwald, Jr., a respected U.S. Tax Court judge known for his commitment to rigorous legal writing and research.
The competition invites law students who are enrolled full-time, as well as part-time law school students at the undergraduate or graduate level, to submit scholarly papers on any federal or state tax-related topic. Papers are judged based on originality, quality of analysis, clarity of writing, and contribution to tax scholarship.
Three winners will be selected, receiving $5,000, $2,500, or $1,500 depending on placement. The competition is designed to promote meaningful academic engagement in tax law and encourage students to explore emerging, complex, or unresolved issues in taxation.
