The College JumpStart Scholarship is a merit-based award designed to support motivated students who are committed to pursuing higher education. Unlike many traditional scholarships, financial need, GPA, and standardized test scores are not factors in the selection process. Instead, applicants are evaluated on their goals, ambition, and ability to clearly express how education will help them achieve their future aspirations.
The scholarship is open to 10th–12th grade high school students, college students (two-year and four-year), and adult or non-traditional learners planning to enroll in a college or university within the next 12 months. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents and must complete an online application that includes a thoughtful personal statement. The personal statement typically focuses on the student’s educational goals, career ambitions, and the steps they are taking to succeed academically and personally.
Founded in 2009 by Susan Lark, the College JumpStart Scholarship Fund awards cash scholarships to students twice per year through a competitive review process. Awards include a first-place scholarship of $1,500, a second-place scholarship of $750, and several $250 honorable mention awards. The scholarship funds may be applied toward tuition, books, or any educational expense that supports the recipient’s academic goals.
This scholarship is ideal for students who may not fit into conventional financial or academic eligibility criteria but who demonstrate determination, passion for learning, and a clear sense of purpose. All fields of study are accepted, and students from any academic background are encouraged to apply.
