Name: Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Scholarship for Girl Scouts

Award Amount:
– Academic Scholarship to study a foreign language: $1,500 per academic year (renewable for up to 4 years, maximum $6,000)
– Study Abroad Scholarship: $1,000 (one-time)

Information and Eligibility:
The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation honors the memory of Corinne Schillings by awarding scholarships to young women who have achieved the Girl Scouts of the USA Silver or Gold Award. The program promotes the study of languages and global awareness by supporting undergraduate women in two tracks: (1) pursuing a major or minor in a foreign language, and (2) participating in university-sponsored study abroad, regardless of major. Applicants must have earned the Silver or Gold Award, maintain a strong academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA), and demonstrate commitment to global learning through language or cross-cultural study.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Award Holder: Applicant must hold the Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award.
  • Academic Track: For the language scholarship, major or minor in a foreign language at an accredited four-year U.S. institution, with plans to continue study.
  • Study Abroad Track: For the travel scholarship, participation in a study-abroad program of at least six weeks (summer) or semester/year abroad during undergraduate degree.
  • Academic Standing: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent) for both tracks.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed application form (Academic or Study Abroad track) from the Foundation.
  • Proof of receipt of the Silver or Gold Award.
  • Official or unofficial transcript showing current college enrollment and grades.
  • Letter of recommendation from a Girl Scout volunteer or staff member who is not a relative; must be written within the past six months.
  • For Study Abroad: proof of acceptance to the abroad program, program length (minimum six weeks), and statement of purpose.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic achievement as demonstrated by transcript and GPA.
  • Receipt of Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award and demonstrated commitment to leadership.
  • Clarity and quality of application materials—essay/purpose statement, recommendations, and alignment with scholarship goals of language or global learning.

Additional Details:

  • Applications for the Academic Scholarship are accepted each year; Study Abroad applications may have spring and fall deadlines (award notifications occur July 1 for full year/first semester and January 1 for second semester).
  • The Foundation supports study in any foreign country for the travel scholarship—it is not restricted to Europe.
  • Scholarships are non-renewable for the Study Abroad track; the Academic track may be renewed annually up to four times, pending application and recipient compliance.

Deadline:

  • March
