The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Scholarship

Name: Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Scholarship

Award Amount:

  • $1,500 per year — Academic Scholarship for foreign-language study (renewable up to 4 years, total up to $6,000)
  • $1,000 — Study Abroad Scholarship for eligible semesters/travel periods (one-time per award cycle)

Information And Eligibility:
The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation was established to honor the memory of Corinne Schillings, a young woman who loved learning languages and exploring other cultures. The foundation’s mission is to support women who share her passion for language learning and global engagement. As part of that mission, the foundation offers two types of scholarships — an Academic Scholarship for foreign-language study and a Study Abroad Scholarship — available to undergraduate women who have earned the Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award. The foundation encourages cultural awareness, global citizenship, and academic growth in language studies.

The Academic Scholarship supports college women majoring or minoring in a foreign language at an accredited four-year U.S. college or university, offering $1,500 per academic year (renewable up to three additional years upon reapplication and eligibility). The Study Abroad Scholarship provides $1,000 to students who plan to study abroad — whether for a summer program, a semester, or a full academic year — regardless of their major, as long as they meet the fund’s requirements.

The foundation seeks to help students cover costs such as tuition, program fees, study materials, travel expenses, or living expenses overseas — giving young women the opportunity to immerse themselves in new languages and cultures much like Corinne would have valued.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a female student who has earned the Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award
  • Must be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate at an accredited college or university in the U.S.
  • For Academic Scholarship: must major or minor in a foreign language
  • For Study Abroad Scholarship: must provide proof of acceptance into a study-abroad program (summer, semester, or academic year)
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
  • Must submit required application materials, including recommendation and proof of Girl Scout award

Application Requirements:

  • Completed application form (downloadable from foundation website)
  • Official or unofficial college transcripts verifying GPA and enrollment
  • Proof of Girl Scout Silver or Gold Award
  • Letter of recommendation from a Girl Scout volunteer or staff member (not a relative), dated within past 6 months
  • For Study Abroad Scholarship: proof of acceptance into a qualified study-abroad program

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic merit and commitment to foreign-language study or global learning
  • Clear demonstration of motivation to learn languages or engage in cultural immersion
  • Quality of application, including recommendation, transcripts, and documentation
  • For study abroad — feasibility and seriousness of proposed overseas program

Additional Details:

  • The foundation is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, incorporated in Illinois.
  • Applications are reviewed annually; scholarship funds depend on foundation resources and number of qualified applicants.
  • Winners are notified after full review; funds are typically applied toward tuition, study materials, or approved abroad-program costs.

Deadline: May (for Academic & Study Abroad Scholarships); December (for second-semester or summer-abroad applications)
