Award Amount: Up to about $60,000 per recipient (for undergraduate awards) and up to about $30,000 for graduate awards

Information and Eligibility:
The Hagan Scholarship Foundation provides need-based merit awards to high‐achieving high school seniors who plan to attend an eligible four-year college or university and who seek to graduate debt-free. The program also includes opportunities for graduate study for Hagan Scholars who complete college under the program.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Academic Level: High school graduating senior enrolling full-time in an eligible four-year nonprofit college or university (for the undergraduate award); for the graduate award, recent college graduates admitted to a graduate or professional program.
  • GPA: Minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Work Requirement: Applicant must complete 240 hours of paid work between January 1 and the start of the fall semester in the first year of college.
  • Income/Need: The applicant’s household adjusted gross income must not exceed $100,000 (for recent cycles) and applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed online application form at the Hagan Scholarship Foundation website.
  • High school transcript verifying graduation class and GPA.
  • Documentation of work hours (240 hours) for periods outlined by the program.
  • Enrollment plan at an eligible four-year college/university.
  • Other documents as required (household income verification, FAFSA summary if finalist, etc.).

Selection Criteria:

  • Strong academic record and potential for success in a four-year college program.
  • Demonstrated financial need and readiness to graduate in four years or less.
  • Completion of required work hours and commitment to the responsibilities of the Hagan Scholar program. }

Additional Details:

  • Undergraduate awards: Up to $7,500 each semester for up to eight consecutive semesters, plus $2,000 for essential college items in the first year.
  • Graduate awards: Hagan Scholars who graduate while under the program may apply for a Graduate Scholarship for up to four additional semesters, receiving up to $7,500 each semester.
  • Recipients receive additional benefits including workshops on life-skills, optional study abroad funding (up to $8,000), and a brokerage account managed through the HSF Schwab account.
