Information And Eligibility: The HORIZONS Scholarship Program, established in 1988 has been awarding college scholarships to women who major in science, technology, math, engineering, or any other field that supports national security, for the past 25 years. The scholarship is provided by Women In Defense, who encourage women to pursue careers related to the national security and defense of the United States. This college scholarship opportunity is open to women who are U.S. citizens, and are planning a career in the defense or national security fields. All applicants must be currently enrolled at an accredited university or college, as a full-time or part-time student (undergraduate and graduate students are both eligible). Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25, have an interest in pursuing a career related to national security or defense, and demonstrate a financial need for the scholarship award. The preferred fields of study for applicants applying for this scholarship are: security studies, military history, government relations, engineering, international relations, political science, computer science, physics, mathematics, and economics. However, other majors with a relevance to a career in the areas of national security or defense will be accepted. Winners will be selected based on their academic achievements, participation in defense and national security activities, field of study, work experience, statements of objectives, recommendations, and financial need. The award amounts, and number of scholarships awarded per year will vary.
