The One Club for Creativity Young Ones Student Awards

Name: The One Club for Creativity – Young Ones Student Awards

Award Amount: Varies

Information And Eligibility:
The Young Ones Student Awards, administered by The One Club for Creativity, is a prestigious global competition for students and recent graduates in advertising, design, digital communication, typography, motion/film craft, and related creative disciplines. Rather than a traditional cash scholarship, the Young Ones Awards offer recognition, industry validation, and career-building opportunities. Winning or placing in this competition — with awards such as the coveted “One Show Pencil,” “ADC Cube,” or “TDC/Type High” honors — can significantly strengthen a student’s portfolio and professional credentials, helping them stand out when applying for internships, jobs, or further educational opportunities.

The program is open to undergraduate, graduate, or portfolio-school students (including recent grads) who have less than two years of professional experience in the advertising, marketing, design, or communications industry. The work submitted must be student work — coursework, personal projects, or student-level creative endeavors — not professional agency work or internships. Young Ones welcomes entrants worldwide.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or portfolio program — or be a recent graduate (no earlier than the most recent eligible graduation date)
  • Must have less than two years of prior full-time professional creative industry experience
  • Work submitted must be student-created (school assignments or personal work), not agency or paid-professional work

Application Requirements:

  • Submission of creative work according to the rules of the chosen competition category (e.g. advertising campaign, design project, film/animation, typography, portfolio collection)
  • Pay the entry fee (though fee-waivers or discounts may apply for some entrants, e.g. through the “Next Up Fee Waiver” program)
  • If entering as a team — all team members must individually meet eligibility requirements. For Client-Pitch competitions, teams are limited to four people.

Selection Criteria:

  • Creativity, originality, and excellence of executed work
  • Concept strength, execution quality, technical skill, and clarity of communication
  • Adherence to brief requirements (when applicable — e.g. in “One Show Brief/Client-Pitch” entries)

Additional Details:

  • Young Ones encompasses four main competitions: One Show (creative briefs), ADC (design and advertising craft), Portfolio (a collection showcasing range and talent), and TDC (typography and lettering)
  • Top winners may receive a “One Show Pencil,” “ADC Cube,” “Type High” honors, or Portfolio Awards — these are highly regarded accolades in advertising and creative industries and appear on winners’ professional portfolios and resumes.
  • Winners and finalists are celebrated at an annual awards ceremony — part of the broader industry event known as Creative Week, held in New York City every May.
  • Participation offers substantial exposure: finalists can network with major agencies and brands, attend portfolio reviews, and gain access to One Club archives and membership benefits.
  • Because the award is not strictly a financial scholarship, funds are not disbursed — instead, winners gain industry recognition, which often leads to job offers, internship opportunities, or enhanced acceptance into graduate/advanced creative studies.
